Bank sync
Connecting a bank, fixing sync issues, and what gets imported.
How do I connect my bank?+
Sign in, go to Settings, Bank Sync, Connect a bank. You're routed to Plaid's secure flow where you enter your bank credentials. Vekfinance never sees the username or password.
Why did my bank disconnect?+
Most disconnects are caused by a bank password change, MFA challenge, or routine token expiry. Re-link from Settings, Bank Sync. Takes 30 seconds.
How often does sync run?+
Once per day via a background job, plus instant webhook updates when Plaid pushes new transactions. You can also force a sync from Settings, Bank Sync, Refresh now.
Which banks are supported?+
12,000+ US banks, credit unions, brokerages, and credit cards via Plaid. Full list at /banks.
Does Vekfinance see my bank password?+
No. Credentials go directly into Plaid's sandboxed flow. We only receive an opaque, read-only access token. Details on /security.
Automatic categorization
How the deterministic categorizer works and how to teach it.
How does auto-categorization work?+
Three tiers run in order, all on our server: (1) your saved rules, (2) the bank's category hint, (3) a merchant dictionary of 150+ patterns. Whichever returns first wins. Anything unresolved stays uncategorized for one-tap manual categorization. No AI is involved, and nothing leaves your encrypted boundary.
Why was this transaction categorized wrong?+
Tap the category to change it. The system saves your correction as a rule so the same merchant goes to that category next time. Over a few weeks, accuracy climbs to 95%+.
Can I see what category each transaction is in?+
Transactions tab shows all categorized items. The Review Queue surfaces only items the categorizer wasn't confident about. Empty queue means everything's categorized.
Do I lose my rules if I upgrade or downgrade?+
No. Rules live in your account permanently. Tier changes only affect the AI assistant and bank-sync access.
Debt payoff
Avalanche, snowball, and the payoff cockpit.
What is avalanche vs snowball?+
Avalanche pays the highest-APR debt first and saves the most interest. Snowball pays the smallest balance first and feels faster psychologically. The cockpit lets you compare both side-by-side with your real debts.
How do I add a debt?+
Debts page, Add debt. Enter the balance, APR, and minimum payment. The cockpit auto-calculates payoff dates and total interest under each strategy.
Can I model paying extra each month?+
Yes. Each debt has a slider for extra monthly payment. The cockpit re-runs the math live so you see how a $50 or $200 extra payment shifts your payoff date.
What if I want to invest instead of pay off debt?+
The Investment tab has a 'pay debt vs invest' simulator that compares the after-tax return of investing vs the guaranteed return of paying off the debt at its APR.
Budgets
Setting targets, tracking against them, and adjusting.
How do I set a budget?+
Budgets page, Set targets. For each category, enter a monthly limit. Vekfinance pulls 16 default categories plus any you've added. Targets are flexible, no zero-based methodology required.
What does the sparkline next to each category mean?+
It's your spending over the last 6 months in that category. Helps you set a target that matches reality vs wishful thinking.
What happens if I go over?+
The category turns red on the Dashboard and Budgets pages. No penalty, no notification spam. The Dashboard summary shows your total over/under for the month.
How do I add a category?+
Settings, Categories, Add category. Pick a color and an icon. You can also rename or merge categories from the same page.
CSV import
Bringing data in from Mint, your bank, or another app.
Which CSV formats are supported?+
Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Citi, USAA, Discover, Apple Card, AMEX, and Mint, Monarch, YNAB, Copilot exports out of the box. Custom mapping for any other format.
How do I import a CSV?+
Transactions page, Import CSV. Drag the file or click to upload. The parser detects the format automatically; if it doesn't, the mapping screen lets you pick which column is date, description, amount.
Will CSV import create duplicates?+
No. Each transaction is hashed by date + amount + description. Re-importing the same file or overlapping date ranges skips duplicates automatically.
Can I delete an import if I made a mistake?+
Yes. Transactions, Imports, find the import, Delete. Removes only that batch, doesn't touch other transactions.
Account and privacy
Password, 2FA, exports, and deleting your data.
How do I enable two-factor authentication?+
Settings, Security, Enable 2FA. Scan the QR code with any authenticator app (Authy, 1Password, Google Authenticator). You get one-time backup codes you should save somewhere safe.
How do I change my password?+
Settings, Security, Change password. Requires your current password. Triggers a HaveIBeenPwned check on the new password to make sure it's not in any known breach.
How do I export all my data?+
Settings, Data, Export. Generates a JSON file with all your transactions, accounts, budgets, debts, categories, and rules. Use it for backup, switching tools, or just for the record.
How do I delete my account?+
Settings, Account, Delete account. Permanently removes your user row and all financial data within 24 hours. We retain limited authentication logs for 12 months for security forensics, no financial data.
Does Vekfinance sell my data?+
Never. No advertising, no data brokers, no analytics that track you across sites. See /security for the full data model.

What Pro unlocks, billing, and cancellation.
What does Pro unlock?+

How much is Pro?+

Household & partners
Share a read-only view of your finances with a partner, privately.
How do I share a household view with my partner?+
Open the Household tab and invite your partner by email. They accept from their own Vekfinance account, and you both get one combined, read-only view. Household sharing is a Pro feature.
Can my partner see my bank logins or change my data?+
No. The household view is strictly read-only. Neither of you ever sees the other's bank logins, and no one can edit or delete the other's accounts, transactions, or goals.
What does my partner need to do?+
They sign in (or start a free trial) with the email you invited, open the invite, and accept. Nothing is shared until they consent.
How do I stop sharing?+
Either of you can disconnect from the Household page at any time. Sharing stops instantly and the combined view is removed for both of you.
