Monarch Money is the most-recommended paid Mint replacement. Built by ex-Mint engineers, it nails the polished personal-finance app experience that Mint had at its peak. It also costs $179.88 a year ($14.99 monthly, $99.99 annual), which makes it the wrong tool if the price is what drove you away from Mint in the first place.
Vekfinance was built post-Mint to do the same job for less, with a 30-day free trial. The rest of this page is the honest, feature-by-feature comparison so you can pick the right one without trying both.

Where Vekfinance wins
- Price. Vekfinance is $10 a month, roughly half Monarch's $14.99, and the free trial is longer (30 days vs 7). On annual billing the two paid plans are closer (Monarch works out to about $8.33 a month).
- AI depth. Vekfinance categorizes deterministically with a three-tier stack (user rules, Plaid hint, merchant dictionary), and the assistant reasons over a de-identified summary of your transactions, budgets, debts, and goals. Monarch shipped an AI assistant in 2024; in our view the day-to-day integration is shallower, but try both and judge for yourself.
- Privacy posture. Both apps use Plaid for bank connectivity. Vekfinance goes further on the data it holds: the database is encrypted at rest with AES-256, there are no ads, no ad pixels, no cross-site trackers, your data is never sold, and AI never trains on your transactions. The only third parties that touch your data are Plaid (bank link) and Anthropic (when you use AI); billing runs through Stripe and account emails through Resend, neither of which sees your transactions; our hosting provider stores the encrypted database; and PostHog Cloud US handles anonymized funnel analytics with no PII.
- Debt cockpit. Real avalanche / snowball payoff plans with monthly projections, not just a balance list.
Where Monarch wins
- One fully shared budget. Monarch's members co-edit a single shared budget. Vekfinance also covers a household of up to 6, but keeps each person's account private and read-only rather than merged, and one Pro plan covers everyone. If you specifically want everyone editing one combined budget, Monarch fits that better.
- Native mobile apps. iOS and Android apps that feel native, with widgets and notifications. Vekfinance is a web app that runs in mobile browsers, fast but not native.
- Investment tracking. Brokerage holdings, performance over time, sector breakdowns. Vekfinance investment tracking is basic.
- Maturity. Monarch launched around 2019 and has years of polish. Vekfinance is newer and rougher in spots.
How to pick
Pick Vekfinance if you want a longer trial to actually test it, deeper AI features in the day-to-day flow, a stronger privacy story, and you mostly manage household finances yourself.
Pick Monarch if you want everyone co-editing one fully shared budget, want the maturest mobile apps in the category, or care more about investment-account depth than AI or price.
Try both by importing your Mint CSV (or Monarch export) into Vekfinance. Free to try, and you keep your Monarch account active while you compare.
Switching from Monarch
Monarch lets you export transactions as CSV from Settings, Data, Export. Vekfinance imports that file directly, mapping date, description, amount, and category in one drag-and-drop. Budgets and goals you re-enter; that's a 10-minute task once.
Existing Monarch users typically take 20 minutes total to switch. The setup guide walks through every step.

Frequently asked questions
How does Vekfinance's pricing work?
Every account starts with a 30-day free trial of the full product: CSV import, bank sync via Plaid, the private AI assistant, debt cockpit, everything. After that it's $10 a month. Monarch's trial is 7 days and then $14.99 a month.
Which has better bank sync?
Both use Plaid for bank connections, so coverage and reliability are the same. The real differences are price and what's built in: Monarch is $14.99/month; Vekfinance is $10/month (30-day free trial) with the private AI assistant included.
Does Monarch have AI?
Monarch added an AI assistant in 2024 that answers questions and helps categorize. Vekfinance takes a privacy-first approach: a single AI assistant (chat, monthly close insight, and portfolio analysis) that reasons over a de-identified summary of your finances, never your raw transactions or balances. Categorization is deterministic and runs on our own server. The difference is where your data goes: ours stays inside an encrypted boundary, and every payload to the model is logged for you to read.
Can I share with my spouse or partner like Monarch?
Yes. You and your partner each keep your own private account and connect your own banks, then link up for one read-only household view of your combined net worth, accounts, income, and spending. Up to 6 people can share one household, and a single Pro plan covers everyone, so each linked member gets bank sync and every Pro feature at no extra cost. The difference from Monarch: nothing is co-mingled and no one can change anyone else's data.
Does Vekfinance have native iOS and Android apps?
Web only today. The site is built for mobile browsers and runs smoothly on iPhone Safari and Android Chrome. Native apps are planned; Monarch has them already.
What about privacy?
Vekfinance does not sell data, does not run advertising integrations, and does not use third-party cross-site tracking. Monarch's privacy policy is similar in spirit. Both apps connect to banks through Plaid; Vekfinance additionally encrypts your data at rest with AES-256 and never trains AI on your transactions.
Can I import my Monarch data into Vekfinance?
Yes. Export your Monarch transactions as CSV (Settings, Data, Export), then drag the file onto the Transactions page in Vekfinance. Our parser handles Monarch's CSV format out of the box. Budgets and goals you re-create.
Why pick Monarch over Vekfinance?
If you want everyone co-editing one fully shared budget, native mobile apps today, or a more mature investment-tracking suite, Monarch is currently ahead. Vekfinance is a fit if you want a longer trial, deeper AI features, a stronger privacy posture, and a private household of up to 6 people where one plan covers everyone.
